Tung Blossoms in Full Bloom – 6 Top Tung Blossom Hiking Trails in Taipei

Huang Liyuan, head of the Department of Urban Development, says that the best tung blossom hiking trail in Taipei is the "Zhanghu Trail," known as the "Muzha Tung Blossom Secret Path" and located near the Maokong Gondola Station. Walking along this musically themed trail, you can see trees full of snow-white tung blossoms swaying in the wind. As a gentle breeze carries the petals down, it feels like a romantic snow dance. The nearby "Zhangshan Temple Trail" also features blooming white tung blossoms. While admiring the scattered petals on the steps, you can also take in stunning views of Taipei 101, Datun Mountain, and Qixing Mountain, temporarily escaping the hustle and bustle of the city and fully enjoying the tranquility of the tung blossom forest.

 

Xia Xiantong, head of the Road and Trail Division, says that the "Bixi Trail," located at the border between Neihu District and Shilin District, is also a great spot to enjoy tung blossom blooms. Along the trail and around the Shitoucuo area, you can see the snowy dance of tung blossoms. The "Datou Mountain Trail" near its entrance also has white tung blossoms scattered across the forest, covering the path like snow, inviting you to take a stroll and enjoy this natural beauty.

Chen Yancheng, a senior engineer at the Road and Trail Division, recommends the "Xianji Rock Trail" in Wenshan District, which is just a fifteen-minute walk from Jimei MRT Station. The "He Xiangu Tung Blossom Grove" is designed around the theme of the Eight Immortals, with its fresh and elegant feel reminiscent of the May snow-like tung blossoms. Every year when the nearby tung blossoms bloom, the ground is covered in a beautiful blanket of white. The mountaintop offers a tung blossom viewing platform where you can look out over the surrounding white blossoms. The platform is equipped with seats shaped like tung blossom stamens and tables resembling five-petal tung blossoms. It’s common to see visitors sipping tea and admiring the "snow" here—a truly poetic and romantic experience.
