【Yellow Duck Tour】China's Big Yellow Duck Adventure Kicks Off in Hangzhou

Since the creation of the first giant yellow duck in 2007, artist Florentijn Hofman has taken his work on a journey starting from Saint-Nazaire, France. As of January 2014, the Yellow Duckling (known as the Big Yellow Duck in China) has visited 23 cities across 11 countries and regions. This year marks the beginning of its journey in China as part of the Big Yellow Duck’s world tour, aiming to bring contemporary art to China and foster a dialogue between public spaces and art through displays in communal areas. At the same time, it seeks to spread love and joy, inspiring people’s spirits without borders or discrimination, creating a positive and inclusive attitude where happiness can be shared by all.

Since embarking on its global journey, the Big Yellow Duck has sparked continuous conversation and remained immensely popular wherever it goes. This time, launched jointly by Hofman, Weilong Art, and Qihu Cultural Creativity, the duck’s arrival in China is highly anticipated by the public and various sectors. Its first destination is Hangzhou’s Xixi Wetland Park. The duck stands 18 meters tall, approximately 18 meters wide, and 25 meters long, weighing about one ton, with a floating base diameter of around 15 meters. Xixi Wetland Park is located in the western part of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, covering an area of 10.64 square kilometers. It is an ecological wetland park that integrates agricultural, urban, and cultural wetlands, and is also China’s first national wetland park.

Additionally, the Big Yellow Duck’s trip to Beijing last year generated around 200 million yuan in business opportunities. This time, the Chinese leg of the duck’s tour has prepared official merchandise, including three-dimensional plush toys and exhibition postcards, which are expected to contribute significantly to tourism revenue.
