Whether it’s baring oneself, licking wounds, or simple curiosity—no matter the motivation behind donating memories—people view the act of exhibiting love relics as almost a solemn ritual. Our society respects marriage, death, and even graduations, yet does not treat every ended relationship the same way, even though these stories are equally filled with intense emotions impossible to ignore.

 

Olinka Vistica and Dražen Grubišić founded the Museum of Broken Relationships, starting in Croatia and traveling globally, collecting countless moving exhibits and stories. Because they come from around the world, the items and stories often carry strong personal emotion and local color, yet still share a universal essence: waiting to be seen and to offer comfort. By displaying these objects, the museum hopes to inspire visitors to explore the long-term significance of “ending” within themselves, rather than simply dwelling on the sadness of heartbreak.

 

The objects displayed in the Museum of Broken Relationships are not masterpieces by renowned artists—they are collective creations by you and me: cufflinks, toy ducks, phone SIM cards, coins, underwear... Everyday items from around the world become unique and irreplaceable through the traces of life left by their original owners. They wait to tell one unique memory and story after another the moment your gaze meets theirs. Whether you’re a donor or a visitor, you are a creator. Your thoughts intertwine to build this one-of-a-kind museum in the world—or perhaps it could be said: this museum belongs to everyone.

 

Like in other cities, the Museum of Broken Relationships also collects exhibits in Taiwan, sharing beautiful, humorous, wild, and brave stories: mending broken hearts and healing pain.
