EVA Air’s Taoyuan–Okinawa route officially commenced service on the 17th. To celebrate the launch of this new route, the airline held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Terminal 2 of Taoyuan Airport, presided over by Fang Zhiwen, Deputy Director-General of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, Wei Shengzhi, Deputy General Manager of Operations at Taoyuan Airport Corporation, Shunsuke Goto, Director of the Interchange Association Japan, Lin Xiu-jia, Acting Director of the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau Taipei Office, and Zheng Chuan-yi, President of EVA Air. The Okinawan mascot MAHAE CHAN also made an appearance at the ceremony, delighting passengers who were happy to take photos with it. Amid a lively and cheerful atmosphere, a joyful island holiday kicked off early.

In his speech, EVA Air President Zheng Chuan-yi stated: “EVA Air sees great potential in the Okinawan market. Okinawa is EVA Air’s eleventh destination in Japan and the closest to Taiwan. With just a ninety-minute flight, travelers can easily enjoy an island breakfast, giving them more options for traveling to Okinawa.”

Nearby Taiwan, Okinawa is known as one of the world’s four major coastal tourist destinations, boasting diverse tourism resources that combine vacationing, sightseeing, and gourmet food. Coupled with its convenient transportation, the destination enjoys consistently high popularity among travelers. According to statistics from the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau Taipei Office, approximately 254,000 Taiwanese visited Okinawa in 2013, a 70% increase from 149,000 in 2012. Therefore, EVA Air specifically chose to launch the route before the peak summer travel season to meet the needs of more travelers and family vacations during the summer break.
EVA Air’s Taoyuan–Okinawa route operates daily using the A321-200 aircraft, with a total of 184 seats, including 8 business class and 176 economy class seats. The flight schedule is as follows:

To celebrate the launch of the new route, EVA Air has collaborated with the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau and travel agencies to offer group tour packages for a 3-night, 4-day trip starting at just NT$22,000 per person. EVA Go Free independent travel packages also offer a 2-night, 1-day trip starting at just NT$11,300 per person. Since their launch, these products have been very popular with travelers. In June, the passenger load factor for the Taoyuan–Okinawa route exceeded 80%, and it is expected to reach another peak during the summer travel season.
