Tokyo Tower holds a special Tanabata event every year, and this year is no exception—it continues with the concept of the Milky Way in the summer night sky by launching the “Amanogawa Galaxy Light Festival.” Although it was initially planned to end on July 7, Tanabata Day, due to overwhelming positive feedback, the event has been extended to August 31. Every evening, both inside and outside Tokyo Tower will be illuminated with blue fluorescence, making it seem as though the Milky Way is right before your eyes.

This year marks the tenth edition of the event at Tokyo Tower, and every year the team continues to put great effort into enhancing its visual appeal. This year, 27,000 lights have been used to extensively decorate the first floor of the Main Deck, while the 600 steps leading from the external staircase to the Main Deck have been adorned with blue LED light orbs. In total, 52,000 fluorescent lights shine both inside and out, creating an even more magical and romantic atmosphere for Tokyo Tower’s night view.

The external staircase lights are turned on from 17:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, and extended from 11:00 to 21:00 on Fridays through Sundays. Meanwhile, the Amanogawa galaxy lights on the Main Deck are illuminated daily from 17:00 to 22:00. The event runs from June 1 to August 31, with the only pause on July 22 due to other events. The fluorescent lights will shine brilliantly at Tokyo Tower throughout the summer, with the Amanogawa galaxy stretching across the season. Visitors heading to Tokyo in the near future should consider stopping by to see the display.
