Irresistible pink meatballs: Taichung’s ultra-healing cat-paw and big-eyed dumplings

With the recent cold snap, there's nothing better than a warm bowl of dumplings. Located in Taichung, Shuangfu Handmade Desserts has become one of the city’s most popular sweet shops in less than a year, thanks to its generous portions and abundant toppings.

At the end of last year, they also launched a winter-limited set featuring matcha and cat-paw dumplings. The adorable cat-paw shape paired with pink meatballs and a chewy texture has melted the hearts of many. In addition to the limited-edition matcha-filled dumplings, there are also three other flavors—sesame, peanut—as well as various broths such as soy milk, hot brown sugar, hot ginger soup, and red bean and purple rice soup to choose from.

Additionally, there are super fun big-eyed and soot sprite dumplings inspired by the movie My Neighbor Totoro. In fact, Shuangfu Handmade originally focused on desserts like snowflake ice, grass jelly, and tofu pudding. Popular items include fruit snowflake ice, brown sugar bubble tea snowflake ice, and golden-hour white jade matcha snowflake ice, drawing many customers with their diverse sweet offerings.

The incredibly tempting “Sweet in the Heart” steamed buns are a limited-edition favorite at the Yizhong branch. They feature either plain or brown sugar steamed buns topped with semi-melted cheese, drizzled with plenty of condensed milk and chocolate, and served with fresh banana slices. The sweet-and-savory combination has everyone coming back for more.
