The Limited-Edition Qigu Seafood & Mashagou Music Festival in Tainan This Summer!

The Tainan City Government is hosting a series of events under the “Tainan Summer Sea Paradise” program. On the morning of July 9th, a joint press conference for the “Qigu Seafood Festival and Mashagou Music Festival” was held in the first-floor lobby of the Minzhi Municipal Government Center. Attending the event were Mayor Lai Qingde, Deputy Mayor Yan Chunzuo, Tainan City Council Speaker Lai Meihui, Director Lü Dengyuan of Taijiang National Park, Director Zheng Rong of the Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation, Director Li Xiangbin of the Tainan City Tourism Bureau, Tainan County Magistrate Chen Shihsan, as well as other distinguished guests. Together, they officially launched this year’s summer activities, aiming to bring citizens and tourists an unforgettable marine experience filled with fun, excitement, and delicious seafood.

The joint press conference kicked off with a dazzling light-themed musical performance by the renowned indie band Kyra RAY. The audience also got an exclusive sneak peek at the highlight reel of the microfilm “Qigu E Pian,” directed by award-winning director Ah Mu (Zhang Mujie), who has won a Little Golden Bell Award. This was followed by a shadow puppet show performed by students from Hougang Elementary School, winners of the National Creative Puppetry Competition. The children entertainingly presented the “Seven Treasures of Qigu” in a cute, humorous, and witty style. Seven seafood experts also treated the public to tastings of seven different types of seafood.

 

In addition, local Tainan celebrities Fang Shunji and Wei Jiayu, along with producer Teacher Huang Wenlong, were also present. Together with District Chief Zhuang, they introduced the newly released album “Love of Salt Mountain” and announced that 300 free CDs would be given away to locals on July 12th at 2 PM, the opening day of the Qigu Seafood Festival. Finally, all the officials and honored guests present revealed the star-studded lineup of this summer’s highlight event—the “Mashagou Music Festival”—inviting everyone to Tainan this summer to enjoy a feast for the eyes, taste buds, and ears all at once.

The Mashagou Music Festival, to be held on August 9th at the Mashagou Coastal Recreation Area, is different from previous years in several key ways. In addition to the Mashagou Music Awards, which encourage original music, promote Tainanese culture, and nurture musical talent, independent bands from across the country are invited to apply. The top three winning bands will receive prize money of NT$30,000, NT$20,000, and NT$10,000 respectively. This year also sees the creation of Taiwan’s first-ever fluorescent concert, headlined by powerhouse vocalist A-Lin. The lineup also includes Golden Melody Award-winning ballad queen Jia Jia and jazz prince Yenjai. With a one-hour mini-concert format and live band setup, it promises an incredibly enjoyable and memorable musical experience.
