Maya Bay is located on Phi Phi Island, about 48 nautical miles southeast of Phuket. It is the most popular and well-known island among Phuket’s outlying destinations. Nearly all visitors to Phuket make time to come here, making Phi Phi Island almost synonymous with Phuket itself.

Phi Phi Island consists of two main islands and several smaller ones. Before the year 2000, it was already a famous spot for snorkeling and a hidden paradise. However, in 1999, the movie "The Beach," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was filmed at Maya Bay. Since then, it has attracted numerous tourists eager to witness the crystal-clear waters and blue skies from the film. This transformed Maya Bay into an extremely popular tourist attraction, even surpassing the fame of Phi Phi Island. Nowadays, thousands of visitors come here daily. To avoid the crowds, it’s recommended to visit in the early morning or after 5 PM.
