The Michelin Guide, regarded as the bible of travel and gastronomy, released the “Green Guide – Taiwan Edition” (English version) in March 2011, listing the Tainan area as a three-star must-visit city in Taiwan. Among them, Chihkan Tower, Sihuan Wu Temple, Grand Matsu Temple, Confucius Temple, and Nankunshen Daitian Temple were awarded three-star status.To coincide with the publication of the Michelin Green Guide and promote Tainan’s rise in international tourism, as well as to showcase the characteristics of the city and its various attractions, the Tourism Bureau planned and launched the “Tainan Michelin Three-Star Journey” series of urban walking routes. These include: “Historic Walk in Fucheng,” “A Stroll Along Anping Old Street,” “A Leisurely Walk through the Five Channels Old Town,” and “A Walk around Yinjin Harbor in Yanshui.” It is also planned to launch “A Stroll in Guanzi Ridge Hot Spring Village” in October. Since its inception in July 2011, the number of service sessions has officially surpassed 1,000, with over 10,000 visitors participating. The city walks have become widely loved by tourists and emerged as a new travel trend.

The Tourism Bureau stated that in recent years, the city government has actively promoted Yanshui. In addition to successfully including the “Yanshui Beehive Rockets” in the Taiwan Tourism Calendar as one of Taiwan’s representative international events, the “Yanshui Moon Harbor Lantern Festival” has been held for three consecutive years, attracting a large number of visitors. To allow tourists to gain a deeper understanding of Yanshui, the “Yanshui Moon Harbor Walk” was launched in May, offering free guided tours every Saturday at 3 PM. Additionally,in July, the “Five Channels Old Town Walk” was introduced, giving visitors an insight into a hub of traditional crafts and cultural and creative industries. Aside from the “Sunlight Line” being available every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, the first nighttime guided walking route, the “Starlight Line,” was launched, offering free guided services every Friday and Saturday evening from 7–9 PM.
This year, based on visitor feedback over the past two years, the Tourism Bureau has adjusted service times to provide a more comfortable guided experience.Starting in August, the morning session will be from 9–11 AM, while the afternoon session is divided into summer hours (April–October, 4–6 PM) and winter hours (November–March, 3–5 PM). Different walking routes are offered at different times, allowing visitors to choose a suitable time for urban strolls and to explore Tainan, this cultural ancient city.

Whether under the scorching summer sun or the cold winter wind, 73 professional guides, undeterred by changing weather conditions, have upheld their passion for service and responsibility to the city, delivering over a thousand guided tours. They have passed on Tainan’s stories step by step, allowing visitors to not only enjoy a healthy walk but also embark on a deep cultural journey.
