Taitung’s Pisilian (Pisilian), which might at first sound like the name of a scenic coastline, is in fact a small indigenous village situated north of Sanxiantai. Pisilian is an Amis-language term meaning “a place for herding sheep.” In the past, the Amis residents who lived here would let their sheep roam freely on the small islet of Sanxiantai. The tides would rise and fall, keeping the sheep confined to the islet. In the Amis language, sheep are called sili, which is how this place came to be called Pisilian.

In recent years, numerous Jimmy Liao-themed art installations have been established starting from Yilan, extending eastward to the Hualien Hilton Hotel, Taitung Art Museum, and the Pisilian tribal village in Taitung. These creatively use Jimmy Liao’s fresh and meaningful illustrations to connect various attractions across eastern Taiwan.

Hidden within the Pisilian tribal village are 11 Jimmy Liao artworks, themed around the little girl Xiaomi and her dog Ah Ji from the picture book "In the Afternoon of a Spring Day." They are scattered throughout the village, guiding visitors to explore the life of Pisilian alongside Xiaomi and Ah Ji.

In addition to Jimmy Liao’s artworks, walking along Pisilian’s seawall, you’ll find hundreds of uniquely crafted wooden sheep created through the collaboration of renowned wood sculptors and tribal residents. These sheep are placed along the coast, on wave-dissipating blocks, and throughout the village. With the sky and ocean as their backdrop, they recreate the charm of Pisilian as a “land of sheep herding,” merging human culture with nature into a stunning artistic spectacle.
