Can you imagine a massive metal slide right in the middle of a hotel lobby, allowing guests to zoom down a 27-meter-long chute during designated times for a thrilling 15-second “high-speed flight” from the second floor to the first? Both kids and adults can enjoy it, blending art with playful fun. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Red Dot Hotel in Taichung, Taiwan. Not only is the style unique, but their meals also differ from those of typical hotels. The breakfast is served as set meals, with three options to choose from.

Smoky Duck

Made with bread from Luowa Bakery—locally popular in Taichung and supervised by Master Wu Pao-chun and Chef Tomohiro Ishikawa—the dish is topped with the hotel chef’s homemade honey mustard sauce. Crispy smoked duck is stuffed inside the bread, along with greens for a refreshing bite.

▪️ Uses Luowa Bakery’s French bread, topped with greens and scrambled eggs, giving it a texture similar to okonomiyaki. Though not as dense, it still offers a unique flavor.

▪️ The outer layer is crispy puff pastry baked by the restaurant, filled with a marshmallow and chef-made red beans that are delightfully stringy. Topped with fresh cream and nuts, it adds a slightly crunchy texture.

For sides, all three set meals come with seasonal soups and accompaniments. Recently, the side dish has been roasted pumpkin, while the soup resembles a creamy bisque—currently a bread soup, though it may sometimes be pumpkin or radish soup.

Additionally, the restaurant thoughtfully provides various dining styles, including an all-you-can-eat option. Ingredients are equally carefully selected, such as Taichung’s long-established brand of pork floss. Congee uses rice from Hualien Yeyang Rice Merchant, and there’s also a cheese platter and a wider selection of TWG teas. The hotel states that individual main meals change menus approximately every three months, ensuring returning guests enjoy a fresh experience.

The hotel also noted that guests who have breakfast on-site can head upstairs at 11:00 AM to slide down the 27-meter-long slide made of 102 stainless steel panels, stretching over two floors. They hope this offering allows families to enjoy more diverse parent-child moments.
