Gathering all the roses in Taipei! Movie scenes from *52Hz, I Love You* turn the pier into a flower market

Directed by Wei Te-Sheng, the romantic musical *52Hz, I Love You* sparked quite a buzz in Taiwan. The most important flower market scene at the beginning of the film was shot at the Tamsui Customs Wharf, transforming this century-old municipal heritage site into the most romantic Valentine’s Day flower market setting in the director’s vision.

In order to find the European-style flower market by the harbor that Wei Te-Sheng had in mind, the production team racked their brains. In the end, they chose the spacious and scenic Tamsui Customs Wharf. They spent four days decorating it, buying up all the roses in Taipei to create the scene with great care, and the final result earned high praise from Wei Te-Sheng.

The Tamsui Customs Wharf is the only remaining Qing Dynasty-era wharf in Taiwan. It has been occupied successively by the Qing Dynasty, the British, and the Japanese. In 1980 (the 89th year of the Republic of China), it was taken over by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and designated as a municipal heritage site. After four years of restoration, it opened to the public in 2014 (the 103rd year of the Republic of China). Now, it is not only a popular heritage attraction in New Taipei City but has also been used as a filming location by multiple productions.
