The road here isn’t easy to find. The narrow path requires a scooter or bicycle to reach, and you might even come across abandoned tanks along the way. This area is normally a military firing range called Hushan Firing Range. Before entering the grassland, there’s a sign indicating training hours—just avoid weekdays and always pay attention to the notices, or the consequences could be dire.

When walking into the grassland, it’s best to wear long pants as the silvergrass can be quite prickly. Bringing a stick to part the grass is also advisable. With few people around and no stalls or shops in sight, all you’ll find are endless fields of silvergrass and wild weeds. The secluded scenery unfolds before your eyes, and this southern Taiwanese “hidden gem” offers a unique experience. Being immersed in it brings a special feeling and a shift in mindset.

Photographing here in summer might reveal a lush green landscape resembling a desktop wallpaper of a vast meadow, while in winter, everything turns dry and brownish—creating a desolate atmosphere reminiscent of a tragic love story in a music video. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say it looks like a movie poster. The two seasons offer completely different sceneries, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts to test their skills. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the view without damaging or littering this untouched natural landscape.
