A globally renowned American travel magazine recently announced the winners of its 2014 readers' poll for the best islands. The competition included islands from around the world, and the top spot was claimed by the Philippines' Palawan, beating out 29 other islands globally.

Over 76,600 readers participated in this poll. Most believe that Palawan's underground river natural wonder was the main reason for its victory. The underground river in Palawan stretches five kilometers, making it the longest in Asia and the second longest in the world. Visitors can take a sightseeing boat along the waterways to venture deep into the limestone interior and admire stalactites, stalagmites, and other scenic features.
