The annual construction of the nation’s tallest 36-meter Christmas tree at New Taipei City’s Civic Plaza has begun. Last year, the joyful New Taipei City Christmas Town attracted over 2.5 million visitors. On October 30, the event’s launch press conference was held, where the vice mayor turned the roller to open the gates of Christmas Town. The Children’s Theater Troupe, along with kindergarten kids dressed as little snowmen and reindeer, made their appearance, shouting “Merry Christmas!” in Finnish. Amid the cheerful chatter of children,it was announced that the 51-day series of events will officially begin after the tree lighting ceremony on November 15.

This year, the Christmas Town will be open for 51 consecutive days, keeping the festive spirit alive all the way until January 4, 2015.It sets new records for the most days of performances in Christmas Town history, the densest LED lights, the longest length of lighting fixtures, and the tallest Christmas tree. Additionally, it features, for the first time, nationally exclusive macaron-colored lighting technology, breaking away from the usual red, yellow, blue, and green palette to offer the public a fresh visual experience.

Since opening its doors in 2010, the New Taipei City Christmas Town is now entering its fourth year. It has not only become one of the city’s most iconic festive events but has also been voted by netizens as the most romantic Christmas destination in Taiwan. The organizer, New Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau, has created a stunning sea of lights. Across the vast illuminated area of 146,400 square meters, this year there are nearly 18 LED lights per square meter on average, creating a sparkling, romantic ambiance. The total length of lighting fixtures reaches 320,000 meters — equivalent to 660 Taipei 101 towers.

The ever-evolving Christmas tree main light show is also a must-see. In addition to the existing light and sound effects, narration and live-action simulation have been added for the first time, creating a theatrical experience. Little bears circle around the Christmas tree, sirens sound, and white smoke billows from the chimney of the Christmas Express train cabin at Civic Plaza. The surrounding light displays on the first and second-floor corridors will also shimmer in sync with the music of the main show, immersing every spectator in the heart of the performance.
