Taiwan is a food paradise, and among its culinary offerings, Tainan’s street snacks are the most unforgettable. To help people better understand Tainan’s cuisine, the Tainan City Government held the 4th Tainan Food Festival. Tainan’s food is slightly sweet, delicate, and diverse. To further promote Tainan’s culinary delights, the Tainan City Government has organized the “2014 Tainan Food Festival,” now in its fourth year. This year, within the broad diversity of Tainan’s cuisine, three key themes have been specially selected:“lightly blanched beef,” “milkfish,” and “old-fashioned ice parlors,”highlighting the richness of the local food culture and the freshness of ingredients sourced directly from producers, inviting everyone to visit Tainan

to enjoy its delicious food.

“Lightly Blanched Beef”

Tainan City has the highest beef cattle production in the country and is a major beef-producing area. Thanks to the advantage of quick, local delivery, fresh, warm carcass beef can be prepared by lightly blanching—creating Tainan’s unique specialty dish: “lightly blanched beef soup.”

“Milkfish”

Tainan produces more milkfish than any other place in Taiwan and is known as the hometown of milkfish. Starting the day with a bowl of milkfish congee and youtiao (fried dough sticks) is a quintessential Tainan lifestyle habit. To encourage greater industry participation and support, a series of events aim to showcase the region’s specialties through the charm of local fishing villages, attracting friends from all over the country to visit Tainan and explore its tourism offerings, creating new value for fishing communities.
