MRT Stays Open for New Year’s Eve Countdown: Taipei 101 Fireworks & Traffic Battle Plan

As 2014 nears its end and the new year approaches, Taipei 101 announced on the 23rd that the theme of its 2015 New Year’s fireworks will be “2015 iSee Taiwan – Cherish Taiwan,” calling on the people of Taiwan to cherish their homeland together and create a beautiful Taiwan that captures the world’s attention.

This year, to boost participation in Taipei’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Taipei City Government has created a “2015 Countdown Park” from December 10 to January 7 of the following year, centered around the Xinyi Shopping District. From the Xiangti Boulevard, Eslite Xinyi, to the ATT 4 FUN plaza, there will be eye-catching giant LEGO Christmas trees, LINE character installations, and other playful large-scale displays. Additionally, a 4G high-speed internet experience zone will be set up on-site, attracting crowds to take photos, upload, and share. Moreover, a “Countdown New Year City Map” designed by popular online illustrators Cherng’s (Malayan Tapir) and Wei Wei has been launched, combining discount coupons for various Xinyi Shopping District attractions, allowing visitors to follow the map for fun and savings.

The “Taipei’s Most Exciting New Year’s City – 2015 Countdown Party,” jointly organized by the Taipei City Government and TVBS, has this year collaborated with Chunghwa Post to launch the “Letter to Your Future Self – Future Mail.” Designed by well-known online illustrators Cherng’s (Malayan Tapir) and Wei Wei, and featuring 2015 Taipei Countdown Party headliner Jam Hsiao as the “Future Mail Ambassador,” the campaign invites the public to write blessings for the future and send them to “yourself next year.”

 

The activity begins on December 24, 2014. The public can pick up and fill out free letters at the Taipei Exploration Museum first-floor service counter, 13 Taipei City tourist service centers, and 23 Chunghwa Post post offices accepting mail, until supplies run out. The final mailing date is January 10, 2015. Send your completed letters to any Chunghwa Post office counter or the specially designed mailbox, and they will be mailed out uniformly in December 2015. Let your blessings travel through time to cheer on the new year, adding even more meaning.

To accommodate the New Year’s Eve countdown concert hosted by the Taipei City Government, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation also announced on the 23rd that to effectively disperse the crowds,the MRT will operate continuously for 42 hours starting at 6:00 AM on December 31, and has shared a handy tip: “Take different lines to enter, and use three lines to exit.”
