An American diner downstairs from a club in Taichung – grab a late-night breakfast after drinks!

This is an American diner with a bright exterior and modern decor. When I first arrived, I drove around Daguang Road several times and took some time to find it because the entire building has the address 41, and the entrance is on the side (on Daguang Road near Huìwén Road)…

So, when you visit “X BURGER” for the first time, remember to keep your eyes peeled. Trust me, fellow foodies, don’t end up like me, wandering around cluelessly!

This time, before setting out for my invited visit, I still had to consult our mighty “Google God,” and was shocked… Turns out this place used to be the famous PUB “Lizhan,” an English-style restaurant where people used to gather to sing, dance, and have fun. (Suddenly felt like I’ve been out of the loop for ages…?)

Actually, there’s still a nightclub upstairs called “X CUBE,” with the main entrance on XueXue Road. This “X BURGER” is the newest brand under the X Group… Hoping that after partying, dancing, and singing at the club, people can come to “X BURGER” to sober up with some food, chat, relax, and enjoy a different kind of late-night American cuisine… It seems the interior is designed to be bright and classy to distinguish it from nightclubs. The transparent chairs and pure white tabletops really lift your spirits…

The “X BURGER” signs hanging both inside and outside the store have a very stylish design, with LED lights that flash and change colors, showing this really is a nightclub… but downstairs, it’s an American diner. So, no loud music here. Late at night, give your ears a break and feed your stomach instead…

The sofa area can accommodate 6–8 people. That day, sitting on the sofa, I casually asked, “Ah… Can I lie down and take a nap if I’m tired?” The staff said that slightly tipsy guests often rest on the sofas. They want guests to be able to relax and unwind in the late hours of the night!

Menu – The X Big Menu is straightforward and easy to understand. Are you curious? Isn’t this a late-night eatery? Why is there an X Big Breakfast series on the menu? Their operating hours are from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Folks… you’re not seeing things… You can eat here from dinner all the way to breakfast… (Hey… get serious now!) The back of the menu offers snacks, salads, desserts, soups, and burgers. Just two sides, but the selection is surprisingly generous!

Snacks. Spicy Garlic Butter Fried American Pasta with Clams – $150

This dish comes with adjustable spice levels, and the menu says it can go up to “hellfire spicy.” Spice lovers, this one’s for you. The clams are sautéed with pasta (a type of cured sausage), resulting in a slightly spicy and garlicky flavor, while still letting the umami of the clams shine through.

Snacks. U.S. Grade A Raw Oysters (raw or grilled) – $150

No mistake, these are big oysters. You can actually get fresh oysters at an American diner. The moment they were served, all we could say was “Wow wow wow…” But since we weren’t up for eating them raw, we immediately asked the staff if they could be grilled instead. Turns out, this dish is designed to be served either raw or grilled—how considerate!

Main Courses. (Add a drink, soup, or dessert to get a $50 discount) Grilled U.S. Angus Ribeye Steak (350g, prime cut) – $980

This ribeye steak has the perfect texture—not greasy or oily at all, truly authentic Angus beef… The dish comes with two special sauces: fig yogurt and a special cocktail sauce, paired with salad and fries…

The salad features crisp veggies and fruits, and the fries are deliciously crispy. At an American diner, you just have to have super-crispy fries!

The steak served that day was grilled at just the right temperature—not too rare, not too well-done—bringing out the rich flavor of the beef, tender and smooth…

Thick peanut butter is drizzled over a juicy beef patty, paired with a basil-flavored bun. The peanut butter isn’t overly sweet or heavy, and it feels refreshing in the mouth—you’ll definitely want another bite. It also comes with bacon and lettuce for layering, truly an American-style creation. You can taste the care put into making it!

The beef patty… it’s so good, you can take a big bite or ask the staff to cut it for you…

A grilled chicken thigh patty served on multigrain bread (yellow) with fresh veggies and salsa. It has a slightly tangy-spicy flavor, and the grilling didn’t make the chicken dry—it must be the work of a pro. The meal also comes with fries and salad…

In the kitchen, besides the grill master, there’s also a burger-assembling wizard… How do they keep the buns from falling apart?!

Snacks. Sausage Platter – $280

Enjoy a combo of thick-cut bacon, German bone-in sausage, and German breakfast sausage. The presentation is rich and shows the thoughtfulness of the chef.

I thought it was pork belly at first, but it turned out to be thick-cut bacon… (But… what part of the pig is bacon again? After getting confused, I turned to Google God again—turns out bacon is made from pork belly…)

German bone-in sausage and German breakfast sausage… classic combos you’d usually find in an American breakfast. The juicy, Q-textured meat is both tender and crispy…

The side is simple: tortilla chips topped with salsa.

X Big Breakfast Series (Available from AM02:00~05:00) Big Breakfast with Bone-in German Sausage - $200

The breakfast combinations can be varied in many ways. In addition to bacon, bone-in German sausage, and salad, choose one between American fries, mashed potatoes, or sautéed potato cubes, one between sunny-side up eggs or scrambled eggs, and one between French toast or bagels...

Soup. Tomato Seafood Consommé - $120

Seafood such as clams, scallops, and squid are simply simmered in a tomato-based broth before serving. Remember to drink it while it’s hot—the aroma of tomato will waft up to greet you...

As a clear soup, it doesn’t have the thick texture of borscht. This soup is made with tomatoes and seafood, resulting in a refreshing and not greasy flavor.

Soup. Clam Chowder - $120

The shop offers two soup options. This chowder is rich and thick upon the first sip, giving you a satisfying feeling of fullness... So when dining, remember to finish your main course first before enjoying this soup. (If it’s cold outside, maybe start with a bowl of chowder to warm your stomach... then go for a few laps outside before coming back for that burger XD...)

Milkshake. Strawberry Milkshake - $150

Haven’t gone strawberry picking yet this year? Have a strawberry milkshake instead. I remember it’s made by blending ice cream with milk to create that creamy texture. Why do I say that? Because the moment you take a sip, you can definitely taste the ice cream. After asking around, I found out this milkshake has quite the story... (Main character: strawberry, Supporting role 1: ice cream, Supporting role 2: milk... there's really a lot going on here, lol!)

Fresh Fruit Smoothie. Blueberry Smoothie - $220

Once this beautifully presented drink arrived, I snapped a photo right away... (Don’t roll your eyes)... Of course, not the kind of “snapping” you do for karaoke. Under the bright lights of the shop, taking a photo was just the first thing to do. Verdict after drinking: fresh, thick, delicious, and not overly sweet.

Draft Beer. San Miguel Draft Beer - $180

Some people are just too thirsty and want a refreshing, crisp BEER... (burp). The shop offers a variety of beers and draft beers (remember, remember... don’t drink and drive, and don’t drive after drinking!). There are also other cold and hot beverages to choose from on the menu.

Dessert. Light Cheesecake - $200

This dessert is provided by a handmade workshop that collaborates with the shop. The cake is topped with pink leopard print and sprinkled with powdered sugar—pleasing to both the eye and the palate. When you get to the bottom, you’ll find it’s made with an Oreo powder base.

Dessert. Tiramisu - $150

This dessert is a tiramisu made with ladyfinger biscuits, offering a different texture—you just can’t stop at one bite. A must for dessert lovers.

Dessert. Chocolate Tiramisu - $150

The shop currently offers three types of desserts, two of which are tiramisu. The classic tiramisu is mixed with ladyfingers, but what about this chocolate version? After the first bite, you’ll notice a unique texture. After guessing a few times, it turns out it’s made with “Guāi Guāi” (a type of biscuit), giving it a slightly moist and chewy feel. You just can’t help but keep eating. Lately, I’ve really felt like an ant... XD

The shop offers a variety of creative dishes including burgers, steaks, fried foods, and desserts, aiming to bring a new style of American cuisine to night owls and those returning home late. The modern and bright decor is also set to become the latest popular Instagram spot in Taichung. When night falls and the early hours arrive, enjoy a bright “X BURGER”... and savor this unique late-night eatery.
