Everyone knows that I absolutely love visiting night markets—not only are there plenty of affordable street snacks, but you can also discover many traditional, innovative, and fun dishes. Plus, there’s always lots of shopping to do, which makes every trip to the night market super fun for us. This time, I’m taking you all to Raohe Street Night Market～ Located on Raohe Street in Songshan District, Taipei City, Raohe Night Market is not only very close to Exit 5 of Songshan MRT Station, but it’s also not far from Songshan Railway Station. There’s even a parking lot right next to Songshan Elementary School—super convenient transportation-wise！

% What impressed us the most was their garlic sauce, which is basically minced garlic + sauce, with a mild level of spiciness. It also has quite a bit of basil in it, and it smells amazing!

% The clams are tender with a slightly crispy bite, and the sauce is appetizing and great with rice. We were really craving a bowl of plain white rice XD It’s a bit like eating clams at a stir-fry eatery. Although they now have a proper store (the stall has moved from its previous small location), many people still prefer to eat at the stall for that night market vibe!

% We chose this spot because it had a long queue, which is usually a good sign. On one hand, the line moves fairly quickly, and on the other, we wanted to try the food that everyone was lining up for. This place used to be a small shop, but even though it has since expanded (though the original small store is still there), many people still choose to eat at the stall for that authentic night market feel!

% We also came here because this stall sells medicinal pork rib soup, medicinal lamb soup, and pork over rice. In addition, they also offer medicinal clear broth and doubanjiang (spicy bean paste), which all fans are welcome to buy and enjoy at home!

% We also got the pork over rice. It’s traditional preserved radish pork rice, and we felt it was even more delicious when paired with the doubanjiang. Actually, their doubanjiang goes well with anything XD

% Their pork ribs are really flavorful. They don’t use medicinal ingredients, so they have a more natural taste. The meat is tender and not dry at all, and it’s very well-seasoned. Unfortunately, there’s more bone than meat, so it’s a bit of a challenge to eat, but we really loved the broth!

% We also got the preserved radish pork rice. This dish is also very good. However, we’re more used to eating it outdoors. The outdoor seating has a bit more of a lively vibe.

% We also tried the medicinal pork rib soup here. This place is also quite popular. At night, it gets pretty busy too. But when we go to Shilin, we want to eat here, and when we go to Raohe, we want to eat at Chen Dong XD. But we remember their flavor is also pretty good, so it’s worth a try!

% Speaking of stinky tofu, this made us remember the one we had before. The one we had before had a much stronger smell. I think the difference might be in the fermentation process. The one we had today didn’t have as strong a smell. It had a milder taste, and we completely forgot about the wait time because it was so worth it. We ended up getting both the stinky tofu and the century egg tofu.

% They also make really good fried taro puffs. I am also a fan. Especially the cheese taro puff!

% The fried taro puffs here are super crispy on the outside. The taro inside is soft and sweet, and the texture contrasts nicely with the crispy outside. The cheese filling is not too greasy either. We really liked it!

% But what really won us over was the cheese taro puff. It surprised us because the taro filling is incredibly sweet and smooth. The combination of the sweet taro filling with the double-colored cheese—sweet and salty together with a strong cheesy aroma—is amazing when eaten hot. We completely forgot about the wait time and thought it was totally worth it!

% The oyster vermicelli here is also pretty good. Many people here like it. The portion is also quite big, and there’s even someone to take your order and serve you. It’s actually quite nice XD. There are quite a few menu items. We ordered the #1 ranked crispy stinky tofu and the #3 ranked spicy trio, and we were already excited for the food to arrive. Also, their chili is vegetarian, so make sure not to mix it with the meat dishes, so everyone can enjoy the tasty chili!

% They also use very little oil, which is great. I am also quite picky, especially about chili. Especially the cheese taro puff is amazing!

% The stinky tofu here doesn’t have an overpowering smell, and it doesn’t hurt your mouth when you eat it. The texture is moist with a bit of crispiness, making it a pretty mild and palatable flavor. The spicy trio consists of spicy stinky tofu + duck blood + pig’s blood curd. The stinky tofu is quite thick and tender, and the flavor is well-infused. The duck blood is very smooth and soft, and when you bite into it, there’s a little burst of juice. The pig’s blood curd is also soft and tender with a slight chewiness, and it’s very cleanly prepared. It’s pretty tasty overall. The broth is sweet, salty, mildly spicy, and has a hint of sourness, making it very smooth and enjoyable!

% There were also quite a few people in line. Every time we passed by, we saw people queuing up.

% The squid here is also quite popular. We saw the person next to us ordering it. It looks like the squid tastes sweet and salty with a soft chewy texture. For those tired of fried squid, the braised version is also pretty good!

% We also saw a stall that’s been around for over ten years. It’s also a must-try when visiting the night market. The stall is located in the inner area of the market.

% Other than that, they also have another type of noodles that’s quite unique. Their vermicelli has a lighter starchiness, and the intestines aren’t pre-cooked, so the flavor is moderate but still pretty good and refreshing. The fried rice has distinct grains and is quite fragrant on its own, but pairing it with our favorite sweet and spicy sauce makes it even better. The meatballs are made with fresh pork, fish paste, and bamboo slices, and they’re pretty good too. Friends who are interested can come and give them a try!

% We also got the squid. The squid here is much bigger than the ones we usually get. The ones we usually get are smaller.

% We also got the fish ball soup. The soup here is also a specialty. It’s made with a variety of ingredients and can be customized to your taste. It’s pretty versatile and can be adjusted to different spice levels. It’s really a great choice!

% This is a 60-year-old stall. When you’re at the night market, you’ve got to get a skewer of traditional pig’s blood cake. Their pig’s blood cake is quite thick and soft, and it pairs really well with the sauce, peanut powder, and cilantro. Adding a bit of spice makes it even more aromatic and delicious!

% The temple we visited is also very solemn and magnificent. Plus, it’s close to the Lantern Festival, so there are lantern-related activities, and it feels very lively!

% We also recommend the herbal soup. It’s a local favorite. The price is not high, and it’s quite filling.

% We also met some friends from Tainan, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung who are all fans of stinky tofu. The first time my friend tried it, they loved it.


% We also went to Cijin. The coastal scenery there is beautiful, and we visited some old temples and climbed up to the lighthouse. The view was really impressive. The weather was also nice when we went.


% There are also some dessert shops here. Most of them are pretty famous.

%Although Raohe Night Market isn't particularly huge, there’s quite a lot of food to try. There are also plenty of phone accessories, bags, jewelry, casual sportswear, shoes, and more to shop for. It’s a pretty nice night market to stroll around. DaKou recommends coming to Raohe Night Market as early as possible, especially on holidays when it gets extremely crowded later in the evening. So you can come around 3 or 4 in the afternoon to start eating. You can start by lining up for the Fuzhou Shizu Pepper Buns, then enjoy treats from Chen Dong (the shop), Flame Dice Beef, Yuanyuan BBQ, and other popular stalls to get a taste of all the must-try foods.
