Every year at the end of winter and beginning of spring, when cherry blossom season arrives, thousands of Taiwan cherry and double-flowered cherry trees sway along the Northern Cross-Island Highway, their petals fluttering gracefully. Stretching over 100 kilometers from the Shimen Reservoir Loop Road, Taoyuan Route 118 Roma Road, up to Zhongbaling Zhongxing Road, it creates a spectacular shower of blossoms. To make it easier for travelers to enjoy cherry blossoms along the Northern Cross-Island Highway, the Taoyuan City Government has released a Northern Cross-Island Cherry Blossom Viewing Map. It highlights key viewing spots during the cherry blossom season from early February to early March, helping visitors plan their trips more conveniently and capture the beauty of falling cherry blossoms.

The Taoyuan City Government stated that apart from the Shimen Reservoir Loop Road and Taoyuan Route 118 Roma Road, the “Cherry Blossom Avenue” in Zhongbaling, Taoyuan Route 118 Roma Road, Taoyuan Route 119 Cherry Blossom Boulevard, Gaoyi Lan Tribe, Guanghua Tribe, and Dongyue Mountain Forest Recreation Area are also excellent spots for cherry blossom viewing. Zhongbaling Zhongxing Road is especially considered a sacred place to admire a “shower of cherry blossoms in the clouds.” Visitors coming to the Northern Cross-Island area during the winter break will find plenty to enjoy.
