National Chung Hsing University is the oldest and most prestigious national university in Taichung. Established during the Japanese colonial period as an agricultural specialty school, it was restructured into a university in 1917. With its vast grounds and lush greenery, and the nearby National Central Library offering abundant academic resources, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Both inside and outside the school, the surrounding areas on Nansheng Road and Xuefu Road are lined with affordable eateries, making them popular dining spots for students. Local favorites near the old train station include Xiao Pang’s Guabao, Tsai Family’s Tofu Pudding, Lao Luo’s Beef Noodles, and Yachiwan’s Oily Rice. Nearby spots like Zhongxiao Night Market, the Third Market, and Lecheng Temple also offer great food choices. Whether you’re exploring Taichung’s old town, sampling traditional snacks, or soaking in the city’s history, this area comes highly recommended.
Tunghai University encompasses a university, a high school, and an elementary school, forming a complete educational community. Due to its vast campus, it boasts many renowned sites, such as the “Luce Memorial Chapel,” a masterpiece by I.M. Pei and Chen Chi-kwan, which is a must-visit when in Tunghai. The Wenli Boulevard is another famous spot. Most importantly, with a campus covering 133 hectares, the beautiful scenery makes it a beloved tourist destination for students and visitors alike in Taichung.

Covering 24 hectares, Asia University adopts an open-campus design with an overall planning style of Greco-Roman architecture. It is a private university established by the China Medical University Group. In 2007, the founder Cai Changhai not only donated numerous artworks to the school but also successfully invited the master architect Tadao Ando to build an art museum on campus, which brought the university widespread fame.
