A must-visit for cat lovers！ The world’s first cat museum

The world’s first museum dedicated to cats, the “Lion City Kitty - The Cat Museum, Muses & Mansion,” opened on January 10, 2015. Located in a three-story residential building in downtown Singapore, it is a non-profit organization. The museum displays photos of cats from various countries and regions, along with touching stories between cats and humans, aiming to help more people understand cats. There are also many cats on-site, and visitors can even adopt one if they wish.

 

The three-story Lion City Kitty Museum is situated on Purvis Street, with each floor featuring a different theme: The second floor’s “The Cat Museum” exhibition hall presents museum displays about the history of cats, including the history of cat breeds from around the world. It also introduces the origins of various native cat breeds in Singapore. For example, Indian and Chinese merchants were among the first to arrive in Singapore, bringing cats from their own countries to protect shipboard food from being eaten by rats, and some of these cats eventually stayed in Singapore. British cats were introduced during the colonial period, while Japanese cats were brought over during the Japanese occupation. The interbreeding of foreign and local cats eventually gave rise to Singapore’s unique “native cat,” the Lion City Kitty.
