Tainan’s Mangrove Secret Spot: Beimen Shuangchun Recreational Area Open to Public for Free

The Beimen area of Tainan has become popular among locals in recent years due to artistic installations such as the Crystal Chapel and wedding photography scenery. Beyond these attractions, there is another hidden mangrove ecological gem nearby — the “Shuangchun Coastal Recreational Area” — that is well worth a visit. The recreational area is currently in a trial operation phase and will be open to the public for free until the end of June. It is perfect for seaside outings and nature walks, and in the future, it will also develop tourism themes centered around love and island weddings.

The Shuangchun Coastal Recreational Area is located between the Bazhang River and the Jishui River, at the northernmost coastal tip of Tainan City, about a five-minute drive from the Nanxiang Temple (Nankunshen Daitian Temple). The area enjoys convenient transportation. Due to its rich natural landscapes and ecology, the government has planned this site as an educational and recreational park. Facilities within the park include a service center, parking lot, boardwalks, and rest pavilions. Visitors can observe up close the mangrove ecosystem, including plants like Kandelia obovata, Sonneratia alba, Lumnitzera racemosa, and Lumnitzera littorea, as well as wildlife such as fiddler crabs and mudskippers, via the boardwalks.

Currently, Shuangchun is in trial operation until the end of June, and entry is free for visitors. After further redevelopment, the Shuangchun Recreational Area is set to become a themed travel destination focused on romance, love, and island weddings, complementing the romantic appeal of the Crystal Chapel — a renowned bridal photo spot in Beimen. The area will also feature seaside restaurants, souvenir shops, ecological trails, and outdoor activities such as archery, bicycle rentals, and dune buggy rides. The Tainan City Tourism and Travel Bureau stated that visitors driving to the area can use the newly opened Highway 84 or Highway 61 (West Coast Expressway) to reach Beimen. They can plan a one-day trip to Beimen that includes the Shuangchun Recreational Area, Nankunshen Daitian Temple, Zhaizijiao Salt Fields, and the white Crystal Chapel.
