【Exhibition】Eslite’s “Star” Portrait Exhibition Captures Beautiful Moments in Life

Three years ago, Japanese rising photographer Kotori Kawashima gained immense popularity in Taiwan and Japan with his work “Mirai-chan.” In March 2015, he was awarded the prestigious “Kimura Ihei Award,” often referred to as the Oscars of Japanese photography. The award-winning photo collection “Star,” themed around Taiwan, documents ordinary people, animals, and street scenes across the island. Created over three years and featuring more than 70,000 film shots, the work captures every touching moment of life in Taiwan through the lens.

In “Star,” Kotori Kawashima photographed not only people from all over Taiwan but also animals, street scenes, and more. In his eyes, everything shines like an idol. It is these captivating moments that make up the work “Star.” To faithfully present every moment captured in Taiwan, the photographic works themselves exude a strong local Taiwanese atmosphere, and the photo book’s layout and color scheme draw inspiration from the colorful umbrellas Kawashima saw in Taitung, Taiwan. Through concrete Taiwanese imagery, the book conveys the uniquely Taiwanese essence of “Star.”
