Given how often such scenes play out in malls, often hurting relationships and dampening the shopping mood, the newly opened Mori no Miyako Q’s Mall in Osaka has built a 300-meter-long circular rooftop sky runway on its top floor, offering guests who find accompanying their partners on shopping trips unbearably dull a space to run and exercise, killing time during long waits.

Opened at the end of April, Q’s Mall covers a vast area of 6,934 tsubo and is Japan’s first mall with an aerial runway. The 300-meter-long circular runway is covered with artificial turf, and the mall has thoughtfully divided the track into three sections: the inner two loops are dedicated to running, while the outermost loop is for walking only, allowing those who don’t want to run to stroll along the perimeter and enjoy a 360-degree view of Osaka’s cityscape. In addition, besides the sky runway becoming Q’s Mall’s aerial landmark, the mall has also fully integrated sports elements into the shopping space, including facilities such as a soccer field, swimming pool, and gym. Not only is the architecture full of creativity, but it also makes sports enthusiasts more eager to shop in the department store complex.
