The “DEEP TOKYO PROJECT” is divided into eight different areas for introduction. The first installment features “Sugamo Jizo Dori Shopping Street,” known as the “Harajuku for Ojisan and Obasan (middle-aged and elderly people)” and beloved by Japan’s elderly population. Here you can enjoy a wide variety of traditional Japanese street foods, indulging in an experience akin to visiting a night market in Taiwan—stopping at one eatery after another. You can also pick up various small goods and daily items, ensuring that visitors of all ages can find something to enjoy.

Don’t worry if your Japanese isn’t good—just gather the courage to chat with the local shop owners. Even a smile or some gestures will be met with warm responses from the residents. In fact, such shopping streets are very popular among Japanese people and can be found all over the country. In this “DEEP TOKYO PROJECT,” we’ll also introduce other authentic Japanese shopping streets like Ningyocho and Togoshi Ginza.
