Nestled in the Uttarkashi district of the western Himalayas, Valley of Flowers National Park was discovered in 1931 when Frank S. Smythe lost his way while trekking in the Himalayas. What he saw was an endless sea of flowers, which completely captivated the explorer’s gaze. Thus, the area came to be known as the “Valley of Flowers.” Although locals were aware of the place, they believed it to be a heavenly abode for fairies and did not want visitors to disturb the valley.

Situated at an altitude of 3,600 meters, Valley of Flowers National Park is a dreamlike destination accessible only on foot or by mountaineering, and the starting point for treks to the valley is located 16 kilometers away.

Due to the extreme climate of the Himalayas, along with special temperature and weather conditions, visitors cannot explore Valley of Flowers National Park at any time of year—the region is only open from early May to the end of September. During this period, visitors can admire a unique sea of flowers found nowhere else in the world. Moreover, as different flower species bloom under varying weather conditions, the colors of the flower fields shift over time—from green to golden yellow—allowing visitors to witness the incredible beauty of nature firsthand.
