Do you ever wonder why some people travel with such effortless ease—never targeted by pickpockets, never missing trains, just smoothly navigating everything in a way that’s downright enviable? What’s their secret? The Huffington Posthas rounded up seven tips that can help you move through destinations like a seasoned traveler—no more awkward fumbles.
1. Always know your next destination
A key principle when traveling is to familiarize yourself with how to get from one point to another, as well as their relative locations. For example, at the airport, you should have a general idea of where the check-in counters, security checkpoints, and boarding gates are.
2. Download apps
These days, almost all airlines, restaurants, and transportation systems have their own apps. It’s a good idea to download them in advance so you can receive the latest updates in case of flight changes or any other issues.
3. Same goes for: download “itinerary planning” apps
There are plenty of useful apps out there—it’s all about using them wisely. Some will organize all your booked activities, generate daily itineraries, and even send you alarm reminders. With the right apps, you can integrate flight, hotel, car rental, and restaurant reservations all in one place.
4. Pack light
Many people have this misconception that when traveling abroad, you must shop excessively to bring gifts for colleagues, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and everyone else. Really? That’s not how pros do it. Keep your luggage as light as possible. For trips longer than 14 days, consider having your clothes shipped directly to your accommodation—it’s better than lugging around the same clothes for the entire trip.
5. Move through security quickly
Before going through security, make sure to pack all prohibited items in your checked luggage, have your laptop ready, and have your boarding pass and passport on hand—don’t get held up at the checkpoint.
6. Observe and listen
It’s recommended to frequently check flight and train schedule screens to stay updated on the latest transport conditions. That way, if there are delays, you’ll be mentally prepared or can quickly find an alternative.
7. Loyalty saves money
If you frequently fly with a certain airline or dine at a particular restaurant, you can accumulate miles or points. Sometimes, this can get you early boarding or discounts.
