The breathtaking Tianzi Mountain, home to the world’s first seen karst peaks

Located within Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan Province, China, it is a nature reserve spanning 130 square kilometers. In addition to its waterfalls, rivers, and caves, the park is most famous for its countless karst peaks that rise from the earth into the clouds: Tianzi Mountain. Among these dizzyingly magnificent peaks, the highest reach over 1,200 meters. Moreover, the national park has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992.

Known for its steep cliffs and lush forests, this mountain range offers beauty that feels otherworldly, like a celestial realm. Today, it has also inspired many Chinese poets and writers, who have left behind timeless verses in this enchanting environment. In recent years, the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the movie 'Avatar' directed by James Cameron were modeled after the surreal landscapes of this area.

Visitors to the site can take a cable car to the highest platform, where they can enjoy the ethereal valleys, endless green vistas, and Tianzi Mountain’s world-renowned “Four Wonders.” Ever-changing between rain and mist, moonlight and sunrise, and adorned with winter snow, Tianzi Mountain offers spectacular views.
