When visiting Qijin by ferry, don’t just grab some seafood and stroll through the old street before heading back. Walk along the bustling Miaotian Road, pass through Jixiang Street, and you’ll enter a relatively tranquil scenic area. Following the playful signs, to your right is the “Qihou Lighthouse”; to your left is the “Qihou Battery Fort.” Both offer stunning views of the harbor city’s bright seascape.

Qihou is the former name of Qijin. After about 15 minutes of walking up the steps, you’ll reach the “Qihou Lighthouse.” Its exterior is an octagonal, pure white, square building in the Baroque style. Rather than being overly ornate, it carries a touch of Mediterranean exotic flair. With the sea breeze blowing and ships passing by, it offers an incredibly soothing atmosphere.

The Qihou Lighthouse, also known as the Kaohsiung Lighthouse or Qijin Lighthouse, was first built in 1883. Standing 15 meters tall, it is a national third-grade historic site. Its presence on the seaside is unique and eye-catching. Located atop Qihou Mountain, it’s also an excellent spot for photos. Inside, there are displays of related photos and models—don’t miss the chance to learn about its history.

After taking Mediterranean-style photos, it’s a 5–10 minute walk to the century-old “Qihou Battery Fort.” During the Qing Dynasty, it served as a crucial gateway controlling Kaohsiung Port. Designed by a British engineer, it features a “目”-shaped layout, with the main entrance adopting a traditional Chinese eight-character gate design. The sides are constructed with red bricks forming “V” shapes, giving it a uniquely striking architectural style.
