Taipei’s East District is home to the “KOKO Text Pharmacy,” which breaks away from traditional bookstore concepts, creating a text-based pharmacy that resonates with modern life. Visitors who come here to “seek prescriptions and draw lots” can find healing through words and discover ways to overcome modern-day afflictions.

The predecessor of KOKO Text Pharmacy was KOKO Secret Cinema, Taiwan’s first theme cinema designed specifically for young people. With its unique format of not revealing movie titles in advance and instead providing clues and hints before revealing the film’s name on-site, it attracted numerous visitors. After screening many films, KOKO decided to heal young people with words instead, thus reinventing the space as the “KOKO Text Pharmacy.” The new shop is filled with uplifting texts and even features a prescription counter where visitors can pick up remedies based on their own symptoms—an inventive and amusing concept.

Its novel business model quickly drew many young visitors after opening. Not only do they get to draw prescription slips, but they can also leave comments via creative consultation forms and interact with fellow guests—letting everyone find healing through words here.
