With the increasing prevalence of mobile devices, more and more travelers enjoy capturing scenic views along the way and sharing them on social networks. This year, Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures in Japan have thoughtfully partnered with telecom providers to coincide with the opening of Mount Fuji climbing routes in July. From July 10 to September 10 over a two-month period, both prefectures are offering free Wi-Fi to foreign climbers ascending Mount Fuji.

Mount Fuji officially entered its annual opening season in July 2015. The "Yoshida Trail Fifth Station" on the Yamanashi side opened for climbing on July 1 through September 14, while three trails on the Shizuoka side — including the "Subashiri," "Gotemba," and "Fujinomiya" routes — also officially opened on July 10 through September 10.

In conjunction with the opening of climbing routes on both the Shizuoka and Yamanashi sides, this year the two prefectures have partnered with telecom providers to offer free Wi-Fi for climbers. During the opening season, climbers in need can obtain a handbook at the trailheads containing the Wi-Fi account and password. Free Wi-Fi service is available at eight locations, including three mountain huts and the fifth stations, totaling eight spots. Once logged in, users can access 72 hours of free internet. Additionally, Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures have thoughtfully provided handbooks in three languages: Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, and Korean for visitors’ reference..
