Crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, such beautiful scenery attracts many travelers to Okinawa for swimming and surfing every summer. Now, there's a new travel experience in Okinawa — the cross-sea bridge connecting Miyako and Irabu Islands, the “Irabu Bridge,” officially opened in early 2015. Spanning three and a half kilometers over the ocean, visitors can now choose to walk or bike between the two islands and enjoy unique island views.

Irabu Island is located about five kilometers northwest of the Miyako Islands in the Ryukyu Archipelago, with a population of around 5,000. The island is surrounded by azure waters and boasts rich coastal and underwater landscapes, making it a popular tourist destination in Okinawa. Before the completion of the Irabu Bridge, visitors could only reach the island by scheduled ferry. Now, with the bridge finished, not only has accessibility improved, but travel options in Okinawa have also become more diverse.

Irabu Bridge is toll-free, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace on foot, by bike, or by car, enjoying the beautiful island scenery. Additionally, a staircase leading to the beach is located at the starting point, where visitors can also admire this magnificent cross-sea bridge from the sand.
