The most beautiful summer poetic scene: five thousand bamboo lanterns create a dreamy Zen atmosphere

Situated in Mifuneyama Rakuen Park in Saga Prefecture, Japan, the park is famed for its vibrant cherry and azalea blooms in spring, drawing many visitors as a popular flower-viewing spot. Come summer, it hosts the "Cool Breeze Bamboo Lantern Festival." Within its small Japanese garden, over a thousand bamboo lanterns are arranged to form a Zen-inspired art of light, making it the most beautiful summer poetic scene in Saga Prefecture.

The 2015 Mifuneyama Rakuen Park "Cool Breeze Bamboo Lantern Festival" began its dreamy run from7September17to8.31Within the park’s15-square-meter Japanese garden, as many as5000sleek and minimalist bamboo lanterns were used for decoration. In addition to lotus-shaped bamboo lanterns, light curtains, light pillars, and paper lanterns floating on the pond surface, this year the performance stage was extended into the pond itself. Organizers projected digital artworks onto the water’s surface, turning it into a touchscreen-like interactive installation. Whenever small boats created ripples on the pond, the projected carp would swim along with the waves. This colorful, dreamlike interactive installation offered visitors to the Cool Breeze Bamboo Lantern Festival a poetic night of chanting under the summer evening breeze.
