Tainan’s Yuguang Island is located near Anping Fort. Hidden and tranquil, it is a sandbar formed by silt deposition. The only way to reach here is via the Yuguang Bridge—a single bridge connecting two worlds, giving Yuguang Island an especially mysterious feel. It’s hard to imagine that on this small sandbar island lies a design-filled fair-faced concrete house called “Mao House.” Its simple and sleek design, though understated in appearance, exudes an irresistible charm.

The “Mao House” homestay was designed by Mao Senjiang, a student of Tadao Ando. The fair-faced concrete building features an ash-gray exterior that presents a natural and unpretentious vibe. Paired with decorations such as wooden doors, wooden sheds, and green plants, it creates a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. In this small space, everything from the outside to the inside is a work of art, showcasing a pure and tranquil beauty to the fullest. Although the homestay looks understated, like a hermit sage isolated from the world, its meticulously designed brilliance is hard to conceal, leaving visitors in awe upon first sight.
