The “Powen Ding Taipei East District Contemporary Art Exhibition” has turned 10. The 2015 edition of Powen Ding runs from July 25 to September 20. In celebration of the significant mark of “ten,” the tenth exhibition has chosen ten different types of spaces across Taipei’s East District as hubs for art installations. It brings together works from nearly thirty domestic and international artists, with creations inspired by local perspectives that reignite dialogues across different times and spaces, aiming to present a fresh face of Taipei’s cultural and artistic scene.

The “Powen Ding Taipei East District Contemporary Art Exhibition” has held 10 wall-less exhibitions over 15 years, persisting in the idea of art integrated into life and life infused with art. It has accumulated as many as 500 spatial venues, works from 550 domestic and international artists, and nearly 1,000 artworks. Powen Ding represents a dialogue between art and space, offering the authentic flavor of everyday life blended with creativity—allowing every visitor and local in Taipei to casually encounter art on a summer afternoon.

This year, the exhibition area has further embraced spatial regeneration and intervention. Aging military dependents’ villages and old residential apartments—Tongshan Military Village and Da’an Old Residence—have temporarily paused urban redevelopment during the exhibition period to serve as provisional exhibition venues. Through the adaptive reuse of space grounded in land ethics, the project gives back to the local community, fulfills corporate social responsibility, and rekindles reflection on the relationship between people and space.

At the same time, to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Powen Ding has reached another important milestone. The Fubon Art Foundation has partnered with the Google Cultural Institute’s virtual museum, successfully bringing Powen Ding to the cloud. It has become Asia’s first online wall-less art museum and the only certified institution in Taiwan after the National Palace Museum. Cloud technology has given the wall-less art museum a new definition and more diverse forms. Now, anyone can transcend borders and time to appreciate Powen Ding in detail. The collective memory of Powen Ding stored on Google Cloud has already made nearly 400 artworks available online in its first wave.
