Taiwan’s first light rail system will debut in Kaohsiung, with a one-and-a-half-month trial operation expected to begin at the end of August. To allow visitors to experience and adapt to the service of Taiwan’s first at-grade light rail early on, the light rail system plans to open the section from Lizizhenei Station (C1) to Kaisyuan Zhonghua Station (C4) for public rides as an initial operational mode. The public can ride for free daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Deputy Director of the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Chou Te-li, stated that the structures and electromechanical systems of the four current stations have been completed, and the three test-operational light rail vehicles have also passed testing. As for the traffic signals at intersections, construction is being expedited. To ensure the safety of the initial trial runs, traffic police have been asked to control lights and volunteer traffic wardens will manage traffic when trains pass. Additionally, to address potential high demand during the trial period and the relatively limited waiting space at light rail stations, special control and planning measures have been introduced. The initial trial operation is planned for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with trains running every 30 minutes. The light rail will depart from Lizizhenei Station (C1), travel to Kaisyuan Zhonghua Station (C4), then turn around and return to Lizizhenei Station (C1). Boarding and alighting will only be allowed at C1 Station, while other stations along the route will be used for recharging but not for passenger stops.
