In recent years, Taiwan has seen a boom in ice cream trends, with various novel flavors and bright appearances winning over many fans. Now, this craze has spread to Yilan, where a handmade ice cream shop called “Natural天然.手作” uses natural fruits and vegetables to create a variety of brightly colored ice creams. They also offer a limited-edition holiday flavor: squid ice cream. With its unique taste paired with Q弹 (chewy) manta ray skin, the novel, fresh, and rich flavors have quickly gained it considerable popularity.

The owner of “Natural天然.手作” is a fruit and ice cream enthusiast who, after opening the shop, hoped to combine the two and bring healthy, natural flavors to everyone. Every day, they use seasonal fresh fruits and ingredients to create different ice cream flavors without any additives—such as dragon fruit milk ice cream, Lala Mountain peach ice cream, and the special bubble tea flavor, among others... On their social media page, they announce the two daily flavors. “Natural天然.手作” ice cream carries the fresh aroma of fruit and the rich scent of milk, along with the vivid colors from the fruits and vegetables themselves, making it the most eye-catching dessert when visiting the Nanfang’ao fishing port in summer.

Additionally, you can’t miss the limited-edition holiday “squid flavor” ice cream. “Natural天然.手作” blends dark squid ink into fresh milk ice cream, pairs it with fresh manta ray jelly, and sprinkles it with flying fish roe soaked in rice wine. The novel flavor and multi-layered texture make it the shop’s most popular item. If you’re not in the mood for ice cream, “Natural天然.手作” also offers other light snacks such as slushies, pancakes, and sandwiches. Next time you visit Nanfang’ao, besides indulging in seafood, don’t forget to try a delicious ice cream as well.
