Taipei has so many delicious food options, and with the recent slightly cooler weather, it’s the perfect time for some tonic food. This time, DaKou is taking you to a super popular soup spot known for its carefully selected ingredients, generous portions, and literally overflowing goodness.

Situated on Qingdao East Road in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, just beside the Legislative Yuan, “Shuangyue Food Co.” is such a beloved little shop. The store specially uses the thigh meat of daily-slaughtered fresh chicken paired with medicinal herbs or vegetables, and carefully cooks up bowls of hearty, ingredient-packed chicken soup that’s both warming and nourishing. There are also tender oysters from Dongshi and boneless milkfish belly that are soft and smooth, extremely satisfying to eat. You also can't miss their Chinese herbal-marinated snacks, which are aromatic and flavorful, perfectly complementing your meal.

%jiba? The rate is said to be flying all over the place. It’s located on Qingdao East Road in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, not far from the Judicial Yuan. The small shop is quite minimalist, and because it’s very popular, it often gets crowded. However, the staff manage the queue well, so you won’t have to wait too long.

%When you walk in, the space isn’t very big, but it’s brightly lit and has a clean, neat feel, giving off a homely vibe.

%One thing to note is that what they serve today is also what they prepare daily, so if you want something specific, you can just ask the staff directly. Also, their chicken soup is available for delivery, so you can enjoy their delicious offerings at home too.

%All their broths are made using traditional Chinese herbs paired with free-range chicken, giving them a rich and aromatic taste without being overly greasy. The prices are clearly listed on the menu, and overall, it’s quite affordable.

%In addition to soups, they also offer side dishes, snacks, drinks, rice, and more. There are plenty of choices, and the variety is not limited. Their signature dishes are particularly outstanding, so be sure to try those.

%Highlight: Lemon grass jelly (NT$35), Winter melon grass jelly (NT$35)Their grass jelly has an incredibly smooth and slippery texture—you barely need to chew before it slides down your throat, almost like the old-fashioned hand-made kind. The lemon flavor is mildly sweet and fragrant, pairing perfectly with the silky grass jelly for a refreshing taste. The winter melon version has a subtle sweetness, not overly sugary, and complements the delicate grass jelly beautifully. A must-order here.

%They also offer a wide selection of side dishes, including pig skin, pork blood cake, fish balls, and more, allowing customers to choose based on their personal preferences.

%Their soup is also homemade, with no artificial additives, and the taste is authentic and comforting.

%They also pack your order nicely for you to take away. Although it looks simple, it’s actually very presentable, and the flavor remains intact.

%The most popular item is the Chinese herbal chicken soup. It uses traditional Chinese herbs such as polygonum, wolfberry, angelica, and red dates, resulting in a rich and appetizing flavor.

%Both of these items are customer favorites. The pig skin is tender, flavorful, and very clean—no worries about stray hairs. It’s chewy with a slight gelatinous texture, and it’s said to be a limited-edition delicacy. Getting to eat it is pretty lucky. The rice blood cake is also a hit among office workers—chewy with a bit of texture, firm and flavorful without being mushy. It’s delicious even on its own.

%In addition, their other marinated snacks are also quite impressive, with a hint of Chinese herbal aroma and not overly heavy in flavor, making them quite appetizing.

%There are also other options like fish balls, squid balls, and more. The texture is springy yet slightly crispy, savory and sweet, making it hard to stop eating.

%Most importantly, the ingredients in each bowl of soup are generously packed, looking totally authentic and high-quality—no exaggeration.

%Each bowl gives you over a third of a whole chicken, with plenty of great ingredients, and the herbal portion is also quite generous. It feels like they’re not afraid you’ll eat too much. For the portion size and price, we think it’s an amazing deal.

%Highlight: Polygonum multiflorum Chicken Soup (NT$200)Besides the daily freshly slaughtered, extra-large fresh chicken thigh meat, it also comes with red dates, dangshen (codonopsis), longan, and cabbage—looking super nourishing overall.

%The large bowl of this soup is so hearty you can see the bottom. The chicken pieces are big and juicy, and you can really tell it’s high quality.

%What makes it special is that all the ingredients used are sourced locally every day, ensuring freshness and high quality.

%All the chicken used is free-range, raised locally, which is why the taste is so rich and full of umami. There’s no artificial flavoring, so the flavor is very natural. The portion is large, and the ingredients are fresh and high-quality. Each bowl is filled to the brim.

%In addition, the pig skin here is also very popular. It’s surprisingly tender and flavorful, not heavily seasoned, and you can eat it without worry.

%Highlight: Clam Chicken Soup (NT$150)This one is their best-selling classic and the shop’s signature dish. The chicken and clams are piled so high they almost hide the soup—it looks absolutely mouthwatering.

%I couldn’t tell how many there were at first glance. All I could say was that the late autumn evening was incredibly cozy, and not a single fly dared to buzz around.

%The chicken leg here is especially recommended. When you bite into it, it’s chewy and incredibly satisfying.

%The taste of the pork belly here is just like the kind my mom used to make back in the day. It’s not greasy at all, and every bite is full of flavor—it’s really comforting.

%The pork collar here is tender and juicy, and the skin is so crispy that it practically melts in your mouth. It’s truly delicious.

%Burdock Vegetable Soup (100 TWD), This soup is also extremely popular among female customers. It’s packed with napa cabbage, burdock, and goji berries. For those who often eat out, it’s not easy to get so many vegetables and nutrients in one meal. But you can get them all here in one bowl!

%The miso here is made using a traditional method and has a rich umami flavor that lingers in your mouth. There’s also a special miso paste that’s great for improving your health in various ways—it’s highly recommended.

%It’s said that the pickled mustard greens here are made using a secret family recipe, giving them a uniquely tangy flavor that’s very memorable. The dish is even more delicious when paired with burdock exported to Japan.

%The pork here has a naturally rich flavor. It’s not greasy at all, and there aren’t many extra seasonings added, which makes it taste even fresher.

%Fresh Oyster Dry Noodles (100 TWD), The plump and juicy fresh oysters almost completely cover the dry noodles beneath them. It was enough to make our hearts leap with joy!

%The noodles here are springy and firm, and every strand is perfectly cooked. It’s not often you find dry noodles this delicious. They’re not too salty, and they have a rich umami taste.

%The broth here is also very flavorful, with a hint of spiciness that adds an extra kick. It goes really well with the other ingredients.

%Double Moon Oil Rice (35 TWD), The oil rice is also one of their best-selling items, often selling out by lunchtime. Fortunately, there was still some left when we arrived, so we quickly ordered a bowl.

%The grains are bouncy and fragrant on their own, and though it looks simple, it’s a delicious dish that’s hard to forget. I personally prefer it with sweet chili sauce, which enhances the flavor even more. No wonder it’s such a hit.

%Oily Vermicelli (35 TWD), The simple vermicelli paired with scallion oil is soft, chewy, and smooth. It has a nostalgic taste and is incredibly aromatic—it’s irresistible.

%Sweet Potato Leaves (35 TWD), They’re very crisp and tasty. Just lightly sautéed with some scallion oil and sauce, and they’re delicious.

%Dried Oysters (120 TWD), Honestly, the portion of dried oysters here is huge, and each one is plump, tender, and looks absolutely delicious.

%The pickled mustard greens here are also prepared in a very traditional way, with a texture similar to pickled radish, but much better. There’s no greasiness at all, and the combination with the dried oysters is surprisingly good.

%Additionally, you can pair it with a small piece of braised pork, which adds a different texture. Not only is it more filling, but it also feels less heavy. This set is only 20 TWD, which is practically a steal. Seafood lovers definitely shouldn’t miss it!

%Milkfish Belly with Clams (150 TWD), Seafood lovers must try this dish. It’s not only loaded with clams but also features a large, boneless piece of milkfish belly lying proudly on top—it looks amazing.

%The fish belly here is already tender and flavorful, so you can enjoy it with confidence. But do check if there are any small bones. It’s super delicious, and the clams are plump and juicy. Paired with the milkfish belly, it’s truly a feast.

%The pickled mustard greens here are also very tasty, adding a refreshing contrast to the richness of the fish. I’d also highly recommend them.

%The portion is generous, and the taste is excellent. The fish belly here is not only tender and fresh but also has a nice chewiness. The clams are fresh and juicy, and the pickled mustard greens add a nice touch. It’s a very satisfying dish.

%Braised Milkfish Belly (80 TWD)Friends who enjoy bold flavors might want to try the braised milkfish belly.

The slightly sweet and salty braised sauce infuses the dish nicely, making it not only appetizing but also incredibly delicious and satisfying to eat — even those who don’t usually drink fish soup might want to give this a try.

This particular set meal here is considered by many locals to be the best value lunch option. The meats used are all premium quality and healthy choices. Additionally, they also provide health certificates and inspection reports, ensuring customers can dine with peace of mind and enjoy their meal with confidence.

“Shuang Yue Food Co.” not only selects high-quality ingredients with generous portions, but also offers very ample sides, leaving diners feeling both full and satisfied. The must-try He Shou Wu Chicken Soup here is mild, sweet, fragrant, and smooth with a lingering aftertaste that makes you want to keep sipping. Their signature Clam Chicken Soup is another essential dish — the tender, springy chicken thigh meat pairs perfectly with the sweet and fresh clams, creating a delicious, rich, and easy-to-enjoy broth. Other popular items include the braised milkfish belly, Dongshi dried oysters, and traditional Chinese medicinal braised snacks. The boneless braised milkfish belly is soft, tender, flavorful, and instantly lovable; the plump, juicy fresh oysters are large and incredibly satisfying — truly a treat for the taste buds.

Whether you're here to boost your energy and health or simply looking for tasty and wholesome food, you’ll find it all here. Interested friends should definitely come and give it a taste. Highly recommended!!!
