When visiting the ancient capital of Nara, a must-see destination in Kansai, the majestic Tōdai-ji Temple and the deer regarded as messengers of the gods are both iconic sights. However, recently, Nara Park has unexpectedly featured a bizarre blood-colored pond, which has amazed many visitors, who have been eagerly taking photos to capture the striking sight of the crimson-colored water.

This blood-colored pond phenomenon has sparked heated discussions online in Japan. Yukizou Tani, a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science at Osaka Sangyo University, also posted photos on his personal social media page, explaining that the crimson pond is the result of the recent hot weather in Nara, which caused an overgrowth of red algae in the water. The vibrant red hue spread gradually across the pond starting earlier this month, creating the current blood-colored appearance. Additionally, the excessive growth of red algae has raised concerns about potential ecological impacts on other organisms, with many hoping the relevant authorities will address the issue promptly.
