Asia’s Largest Hot Air Balloon Festival Colors the Sky

Autumn is hot air balloon season in Saga, Kyushu, where hundreds of uniquely shaped, colorful balloons float slowly through the sky, making Saga’s blue skies look especially healing. With its vast plains and stable climate, Saga Prefecture is very suitable for hot air ballooning. Every early November, the Saga International Balloon Fiesta is also held along the Kase River in Saga. It is not only Japan’s largest but also Asia’s largest-scale hot air balloon event. The 2015 Saga International Carnival will take place from October 29 to November 4.

Visitors can see hot air balloon enthusiasts from around the world gathering together, piloting hundreds of vibrant balloons as they take to the skies. The event showcases not only flying skills but also creative designs, attracting millions of visitors each year. Regular hot air balloon activities typically take place between 7 AM and 3 PM. In addition, many special programs are also held on-site, giving everyone the chance to get up close to the balloons. The night events are equally exciting, featuring a “Hot Air Balloon Ground Display and Open-Air Concert,” where balloons illuminated by burner flames create a dreamy scene accompanied by enchanting music.
