Renowned Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa, famous for her magical and surreal works, has collaborated with the Sumida Aquarium at Tokyo Skytree since September 9 to launch the “Mika Ninagawa × Sumida Aquarium Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel.” Using thousands of mirrored panels to project her artworks alongside jellyfish imagery, the exhibit creates a dazzling kaleidoscopic world that invites visitors to step into Ninagawa’s fantastical universe.

The Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel installation covers walls and ceilings with up to 5,000 square and triangular mirrors, while eight jellyfish tanks display images of flowers and crowds previously captured by Ninagawa. The artwork is divided into “Day” and “Night” versions: the daytime version features flowers, oceans, and skies, while the nighttime version includes footage and photos of Tokyo’s night scenery, highways, and the Shibuya scramble crossing. The interplay of real and virtual light projections constructs a space full of fantasy and artistic ambiance, drawing visitors once again into the enchantment of Ninagawa’s artistry.
