A Centuries-Old London Landmark Gets a Fresh Look: 100,000 Balloons Create a Stunning Cloud Display

Located in central London, the over 400-year-old Covent Garden Market is one of the must-visit urban attractions for many travelers to the UK. Recently, it invited French artist Charles Pétillon to adorn the space with a dreamy cloud-like installation made of 100,000 white balloons, adding a touch of romance to this historic and charming market square.

Charles Pétillon is known for creating imaginative and captivating works using balloons as his medium. This time, with the theme "Heartbeat," he crafted an installation that highlights Covent Garden's significant historical role in London since the 19th century. The artwork features 100,000 white balloons of varying sizes, forming a structure that spans 54 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and weighs 320 kilograms. The vast balloon cloud covers the entire roof of Covent Garden, and with the play of lights, it presents a striking vitality that has drawn many visitors to take photos and videos with their phones and cameras.

The "Heartbeat" exhibition not only showcases the importance and historical significance of Covent Garden in the lives of Londoners but also aims to connect history with the present. It encourages visitors to view this important building from a new perspective, fostering a greater appreciation for the everyday surroundings and recognizing how the city’s landscape has evolved over time. The exhibition will run until September 27.
