Autumn is approaching, and besides the romantic sight of maple leaves turning red, Hsinchu-based Weiweijia has also announced the official start of its persimmon cake season from September 10. During this time, visitors to the Weiweijia Persimmon Cake Sightseeing Farm can see rows of golden persimmons laid out on racks, soaking up the sun and basking in daylight, resembling little golden orbs that create a beautiful, autumn-exclusive scenery.

As times progress, most persimmon cake producers now use electric ovens to make their products—methods that not only result in lower losses but are also more time- and labor-efficient. However, Xingpu’s Weiweijia has long remained committed to preserving a century-old traditional method of sun-drying persimmon cakes. Leveraging Xingpu’s unique natural advantages, they continue to pass down this traditional delicacy and craftsmanship. The persimmon cakes, infused with ample sunlight and the strong autumn winds, offer an enhanced flavor that has gained them greater recognition.

Compared to others, the time and manpower required for the seven-to-nine-day sun-drying process not only make their costs higher than those of ordinary persimmon cakes but also make it difficult to compete with low-cost persimmon cakes imported from mainland China, resulting in tough business conditions. Fortunately, support from photography enthusiasts has helped them persevere. As a result, Weiweijia warmly welcomes everyone to come and capture the seasonal scenery of sun-dried persimmons. They’ve even added railings and a roof on the second floor specifically for photographers, allowing everyone to shoot safely and comfortably.

From September 10 until January of the following year, Weiweijia offers free admission every day. In addition to admiring the traditional humanistic beauty of sun-dried persimmons—a treat for travelers looking to photograph them—visitors to Weiweijia can also join orchard guided tours, try their hand at DIY persimmon cake kneading, engage in persimmon dyeing, and enjoy a variety of other enriching activities to experience the many wonders of autumn persimmons.
