JR West has announced a complete ban on selfie sticks at 1,195 stations across Osaka, Kyoto, and other areas under its jurisdiction, citing railway safety. Illegal use may result in police involvement. This makes JR West the first railway operator in Japan to enforce a full ban on selfie sticks. In addition to posting multilingual advisory posters in Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English, the company has also produced in-train animations to warn passengers against disturbing others or accidentally touching high-voltage power lines by holding their sticks too high.
