American food website The Daily Meal has announced its 2015 list of the 101 Best Restaurants in Asia. This year, Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan claimed the top spot, while Taiwan’s Din Tai Fung achieved an impressive second-place ranking. In addition to Din Tai Fung, three other Taiwanese restaurants made the list: Le Mout in Taichung ranked 38th, MUME in Taipei ranked 59th, and RAW, opened by André Chiang in Dazhi, came in at 62nd.

Din Tai Fung once topped the list of Asia’s 101 Best Restaurants in 2013, dropped to 6th place in 2016, and this year secured 2nd place, just behind Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan. Taichung’s Le Mout improved by 5 spots from 43rd last year to 38th this year. RAW and MUME, both opened at the end of 2014, made the list within a year of their debut—no small feat.

The list of Asia’s 101 Best Restaurants, curated by The Daily Meal, includes restaurants from 43 countries and cities across Asia such as Cambodia, India, China, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan. From an initial pool of 520 nominated restaurants, 50 food experts—including industry professionals, renowned restaurateurs, and food journalists—voted based on cuisine and dining style. The top five restaurants in 2015 were: 1st, Tim Ho Wan (Hong Kong); 2nd, Din Tai Fung (Taiwan); 3rd, Lung King Heen at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong (a Michelin three-star restaurant); 4th, Tokyo’s Takazawa; and 5th, Whampoa Club at Three on the Bund (Shanghai).
