Gone viral thanks to *Silence* ! Hualien’s hidden gem “Ma|Yu Chu Bo” is just steps away from the sea

The iconic landmark of Hualien Shimen Recreation Area is about to get a new rival !“Ma|Yu Chu Bo”, a well-known local secret spot among Hualien residents, skyrocketed in popularity after being chosen as a filming site for the movie *Silence*. From now on, when visiting Shimen Recreation Area, besides the iconic double-heart rock formation at Shimen Lookout, travelers will have another amazing spot to snap photos.

Shimen Recreation Area, located along the coast, boasts numerous sea erosion caves. Formed from volcanic rock, the cliffs have a dark hue. Over years of being carved by the sea, they’ve developed into uniquely shaped sea caves.

Resembling a small March parked by the sea, “Ma|Yu Chu Bo” served as a mysterious cave setting in the film *Silence*. The movie’s director described the scene as intense and heavy, yet this natural wonder retains its own quiet beauty. Nearby, there are many other charming spots to explore.

Aside from the adorable sea caves, the natural ecology and scenery here are equally astonishing. From the intertidal zone, you can easily spot various fish swimming by. A few more steps ahead reveal azure seawater crashing against rocks, sending up white foam. Gazing into the distance, the blue sky and sea blend seamlessly, while undulating mountain ranges line the shoreline. This rich variety of landscapes makes it a magnet for visitors.

With many scenic spots going viral in recent years, although tourism has brought economic benefits, littering by visitors has also led to environmental damage.While enjoying the beautiful scenery, remember to take your trash with you.
