Taiwanese passports are so handy—ranked 39th in the world!

A foreign website has released a global passport convenience ranking. The results show that Sweden takes the top spot for the most convenient passport worldwide, while Taiwan ranks 39th—only behind Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia in Asia.

This survey was published by the travel comparison website GoEuro, which selected 51 countries worldwide and evaluated them based on passport application fees, processing time, and the number of visa-free countries. The top spot went to Sweden, where a passport costs just £28 (about NT$1,400), can be picked up within one hour after application, and allows visa-free travel to 174 countries—ranking first globally.

Taiwan ranks 39th, enjoying visa-free access to 132 countries. The passport application fee is about NT$1,360, and the processing time is 11 hours. (Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China reports that 153 countries and regions offer visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry to Republic of China passport holders.)Additionally, mainland China ranks 47th globally, with visa-free access to 52 countries. The passport application fee is about NT$1,057, and the processing time is 17 hours.

Other findings: Libya has the longest passport processing time at 278 hours; Sweden, Finland, Germany, the UK, and the US share the top spot for the most visa-free destinations (174 countries), while Afghanistan has the fewest, with access to only 28 countries. The UAE offers the cheapest passport at just £9, whereas Turkey’s is the most expensive at £166.
