A construction site in Zhubei collapses, leaving a massive hole in the road

After a retaining wall collapsed at the construction site at the intersection of Zhuangjing North Road and Shengli 11th Road on the evening of October 24, another landslide occurred on the side near Zhuangjing North Road on October 26, creating a shocking large hole that has sparked public discussion and become an unintended attraction. For safety reasons, please do not approach the area to avoid danger.

The Hsinchu County Government urgently set up a command center to inspect the site and, following the inspection, listened to expert opinions on emergency repairs and discussed follow-up work. Given the repeated collapses at this construction site, pedestrians and drivers are reminded to exercise extra caution when passing through this area.

Vendors continue to backfill the soil in hopes of stabilizing the collapsed retaining wall. Hsinchu Mayor He Ganming suggested immediately resolving the issue of groundwater extraction before proceeding with soil backfilling on the side of the site near Zhuangjing North Road, as well as subsequent road restoration work. Since Zhuangjing North Road is a major traffic artery in Zhubei, the city hopes to restore traffic as soon as it is safe to do so. Vendors have also been asked to properly implement traffic warnings and guide drivers to alternative routes. The shocking sight of the sunken road surface has sparked widespread online discussion, turning the site into an unintended attraction. Passersby are advised not to linger and to stay safe.
