Autumn is a season of vibrant colors. The forests along the North Cross-Island Highway are donning colorful autumn attire, with rolling mountains resembling splendidly painted canvases that shimmer brilliantly under the sunlight. Make the most of this beautiful season by taking a light trip to the North Cross-Island Highway, where red leaves are fluttering everywhere.

The North Cross-Island Highway boasts a rich variety of red-leaf plants, with foliage ranging from red, orange-red, orange, orange-yellow to yellow, creating mountainsides with layered, gradient hues. In addition to the commonly known sweet gum and maple trees, there are also trees like Formosan ash, Chinese tallow tree, and beech. These can be admired atShimen Reservoir, the parking area around Cihu, along Provincial Highway 115 leading to Little Wulai, along Provincial Highway 116 heading to Lalashan, the ecological park area around Xiabaling Ancient Trail, as well as various locationsalong the North Cross-Island Highway.These six spots are ideal for enjoying the red leaves, with the best viewing period expected to be from November through mid-December.
